Our firm decided to give a new charitable effort a try this year — working with Habitat for Humanity! We have traditionally worked with non profits like Friendship House and provided direct support to Delaware families at Christmas time, but we wanted to push deeper into our building and construction roots and work with an organization providing invaluable housing and repair services to Delawareans every day.
We sent four members of our team to the Habitat headquarters to help them with the renovation of their new parking lot, an improvement that will make it significantly easier for their clients, staff, and volunteers to visit and work with them. We got to work power-washing and hand-scrubbing the parking lot walls and and recycled parking blocks, then we moved on to painting both to match their existing building and sign colors! It was arm-tiring work but we were happy to meet and talk with a few of the regular volunteers about other projects they are working on, as well as Habitat’s general programming. The Habitat staff also enjoyed hearing about our work at the firm and how it connected to what they do there!
We are hopeful that we will be able to plan more group volunteer days and continue to support Habitat’s mission in the future. Some photos from our day are posted below:
