The Delaware State Bar Association (DSBA) held its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast this morning, followed by a service project in the afternoon. The event was attended by many notable figures including Professor Tomiko Brown-Nagin, Dean of the Radcliffe Institute and Professor of Law and Professor of History at Harvard University, Chief Justice Seitz, Congresswoman Blunt Rochester, and Governor Carney. The keynote address was given by Professor Tomiko Brown-Nagin, who spoke specifically about the importance of service and community involvement, and about how we as members of the bar can use the practice of law as a tool for social justice.
After the breakfast, our firm participated in a service project at Friendship House’s newly-expanded Clothing Bank warehouse space in Wilmington. Our group helped sort donated clothing, and learned about how donated clothing is sorted, as well as the importance of washing clothes before donating them. It was a privilege for us to work together on something very different from their usual land use and real estate work and serve our community in a small way. In previous years, we have participated in the other recurring service projects like food delivery with Meals on Wheels and food service with the Emmanuel Dining Room.
TGH is committed to promoting service and community involvement and hopes to have several opportunities for service in 2023. If you would like to share ideas or opportunities, please reach out to Sophia Tarabicos at sophia@tarabicosgrosso.com.
