On July 27, 2016, Tarabicos Grosso, LLP welcomed over 50 of our clients and friends to attend another installment of our semi-annual real estate and land use luncheon. The event was held at Eclipse Bistro, which is owned by our client, the Platinum Dining Group!
Larry Tarabicos discussed the current climate of the Delaware development world, specifically with respect to traffic issues. Between recent Court decisions, ongoing development patterns, and the structure of New Castle County’s traffic regulations, Larry believes the County is ready for positive change with respect to the legal relationship between development projects and traffic volume and safety. Larry’s goal for the upcoming year is to explore options for potential legislation to address this critical issue.
Sophia Tarabicos gave a brief presentation about this year’s American Planners Association conference, which was held in Phoenix, AZ. Sophia described the city of Phoenix, with an accompanying visual presentation, and discussed a few of the main themes of the conference, including the national need for better “middle housing” options to address the needs and desires of current and future residential consumers, and the changing labor and career demographics across the country.
Mike Hoffman shared our team’s recent accomplishments and experiences with major land use projects and lessons learned about working with various aspects the Unified Development Code (UDC) and the best practices for interacting with the County and local Land Use Departments. Mike stressed the importance of a property owner advocating for their project by framing the project’s purpose and goals, as well as understanding how their project interacts with the UDC prior to bringing the project to a Land Use Department.
