Newark City Council on Monday, March 25, 2019 unanimously approved plans to redevelop the College Square Shopping Center in Newark, Delaware. Tarabicos Grosso, LLP assisted owner and developer Fusco Enterprises with the land use approvals for the highly-anticipated project, which will transform the 46-acre site into a modern, active lifestyle center with a mix of retail and residential space.
Tarabicos Grosso partner Mike Hoffman led the legal team with respect to obtaining land use approvals, including a Comprehensive Development Plan amendment, Major Subdivision with Site Plan approval, and special-use permits, for the project. Mike was quoted in a WDEL article following the City Council vote discussing how the project will re-energize the outdated shopping center with “new life [and] vibrancy.”
The mixed-use complex to be developed at College Square will blend retail space, including a grocery store, bank, restaurants with outdoor seating, coffee shop, and pharmacy, with 306 apartments to be housed in an attractive, modern, 4-story building. The mostly one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments will be designed to appeal to young professionals and empty nesters. The project will also feature an active recreational area, community amenity spaces, and significant open space with inviting trees and landscaping.
